a bit about me (kirsten o'loughlin)
Earning a degree in Fine Arts didn't teach me anything about Pantone Process, CMYK or the difference between coated and uncoated, yet in my 5th year, I somehow learned that HTML stood for Hyper Text Markup Language. Several hundred HTML pages later and 2900 miles away from where I started, I got a job with the now defunct Influence. This led to meeting Jay David in the usual online ways of 1999, and subsequently Eric Thoelke. True to DotCom form, I was in a remote office in Portland, Oregon, and they in Saint Louis, Missouri.Jay meandered out to Portland for about a year, and we did a few projects while we waited anxiously in our teeny 300 sq ft. studio for Influence to collapse, which it finally did in early 2002. Do we stay, do we go? Jay went, I stayed and Nanette Wallace and I found each other in a letterpress class at OCAC. Over the next 3 years, we collected a few cabinets of type and a couple printing presses, and did several projects together as Press 26.
Alas the rains of Portland finally soaked into my bones—after a short time as an Interactive Designer at Second Story and a 2 month cross country excursion, I made the decision to head east for dryer weather and fresh Budweiser. Here I am, lovin' it at toky branding + design
